Have you ever visited Nagar Valley?
By:Muhammad Ejaz Nagri(Teacher High School Asqurdas)

Nagar,a Paradise in the Northern Areas, is situated at a distance of about 30 kilometers from the Gilgit Town, the capital of Northern Areas. This beautiful valley is stretched at a distance of about 80 kilometers. Chalt is the threshold of Nagar which is at the right bank of famous Hunza Nagar River. The second village that welcomes is Skandarabad, associated with the name Mir Sikandar, the grand father of the grand father of late Mir Shaukat Ali (Mir of the former Nagar State). It is the sub-divisional head quarter. Then there comes the famous village, this village is famous for a historical event when it became the fateful battlefield between British army and the people of Nagar.(The Great Game) The brave soldiers of the British Army could not move ahead from this village due to strong defensive position of the people of Nagar. It took many weeks to break the defensive line of the freedom fighters. British Government accepted that it was a crucial and difficult war for them which they ever faced in the region. Interestingly, a mule was also awarded with the Victoria Cross by the government of Great Britain. It carried heavy guns for the army. Many other villages can be seen on the left bank of Hunza-Nagar River. Some other notable villages are: Thole, Ghulmat, Pisan-Minapin, Miacher, Pheker, Shayar, Askurdas, Summayar, Nagar proper, Hoper
